Description
Hastings was, for centuries, an important fishing port; although much reduced, it has the largest beach-based fishing fleet in England. In the background you can see black wooden huts originally used to store and keep fishing nets dry. During the age of local smuggling the cliffs were used to wreck vessels, this was carried out by placing false harbour lights on the cliffs which were used draw the victims onto the rocks
